Dear Family,
This blog will be another way for us to stay in touch & to keep track of family history ... good idea Heather & Johanna!
July 2008 brought another wonderful family reunion hosted by Dad & the Chapins. Thanks again for all of your hard work! Once again we enjoyed great food, (pizza bash @ Dad's, Poppy's in Estes, brisket & pie @ Chapins, picnic @ Fossil Park & brunch @ Le Peeps), lots of chatter to catch up in each other's lives, visited w/Mom, played some intense games (Ticket to Ride, CatchPhrase, cribbage, Sequence, volley ball), hikes & shopping in Estes Park, had another enjoyable book talk/exchange, and another meaningful church service with wonderful music.
I would love to hear about your travels after the reunion...such as Las Vegas and the visit with Uncle Chuck.
We went to BlackHawk on Monday (7/28) & saw some amazing views through the Rockies. We actually made a circle taking the long way first by Estes & then back through the Denver area. Had good food & plenty of it for lunch @ Fitzgerald's & before we left Dad & Johanna were the winners at the slots. They can tell the details if they want!
After dropping Johanna & Hans, III off at the airport on Tuesday, Hans & I had a wonderful 3 day visit in the Colorado Springs area. If you haven't done any of these activities, I would recommend: visiting the Air Force Academy, Garden of the Gods, Cave of the Winds ( if you like steep roads with hairpin turns), Cog railway trip to the summit of Pikes Peak, and Seven Falls. The cave dwellings at Manitou Springs were interesting but a tad too commercialized. Manitou Springs and Old Colorado are two cute mountain towns with lots of shops and restaurants.
We are so fortunate to have such a loving, supportive family! Let's keep up the good work!
Maybe next time I'll post some pictures.
All for now-
Love,
Susan
